Back in 2014, Shawn Indignation (guitar, Wolfcharge, Hakenkreuz, Moral Outrage) collaborated with Shane Findlay (vocals, Lager Lads) about starting a new band. After working on a couple of songs, they contacted Georges (bass, Twelve Step Failure, Hard Sell) and asked him to play bass. Due to scheduling issues, Shane was unable to remain on vocals.
In January 2015, Shawn and Georges reached out to Doug (Hardtime, Hard Sell) to recruit a drummer. It wasn't long that former Hard Sell lead guitarist, Igor, joined the trio. Together, they began forming the base of what would become the sound of Scars Of Our Youth.
In 2016, due to scheduling issues, Georges was unable to continue playing. S8Y contacted Jay Ross of Disco Assault and asked him to take over as bassist, which he did. With the legendary Jay Ross slapping the strings, Scars Of Our Youth's sound progressed. With a varied background of 80's & 90's punk, hardcore, metal and oi!, Scars Of Our Youth attempted to keep the old school feel alive.
Scars Of Our Youth started playing shows in Windsor, Ontario. Opening up for bands such as Disco Assault and Reckless Upstarts, they soon made a name for themselves in the local scene.
In 2017, S8Y released their first demo featuring 4 songs. Over the next couple of years, the band worked on a full-length demo, recorded by Shawn. In the summer of 2018, the band lost another member when lead guitarist Igor moved away for work.
Shawn then contacted Gabe, whose lead guitar filled in the gaps. The music took on an angrier tone as Gabe's metal influences became clear with chugging riffs and shredding leads. Within a couple of weeks, Scars Of Our Youth were back on stage. The band continued to play and record while working on new material.
Shows came to a halt as Covid shut down the music scene. Furthermore, the band suffered a devastating setback with the unexpected passing of Jay Ross in the early summer of 2021.
After a brief hiatus following the death of their long-time friend, Shawn met Geoff, who filled in on base for a little while. A few months later, Scars Of Our Youth played their first show in two years.
Sometime in late 2022/early 2023, Cory (Wolfcharge, Avoid the Comment Section) showed up swinging his bass and demanding to be part of the band. Geoff fled for greener pastures, while Cory chose to rough it with the old punks. S8Y finally released their long-awaited full-length demo, Too Old to Die Young in March 2022.
With their current lineup, Scars Of Our Youth hope to soon stumble into a professional studio to record new songs and start touring so they can knock the boots off the youngsters.
