Always a supporter of the local music scene and the DIY punk ethic, Shawn has been assaulting Windsor's eardrums since his high school days. In 1984, with four chords, a Sears guitar, and a 50 watt Garnet amp, this young punk became the guitar player in his first band, Hakenkreuz.
After several short lived projects, interests turned toward songwriting and recording in his basement. This resulted in the hardcore band Moral Outrage, which formed in 1997, and of course, Scars of our Youth in 2015. You can also find him thrashing out for Wolfcharge.
90's CJAM fans might remember his growling voice screaming "Shredding Intensities" every Sunday night on 91.5fm.
Gabe's will to play the guitar came from his father, Vincenzo, who would jam to traditional Italian folk music on the 8-track while playing along on the harmonica.
Gabe soon grabbed a guitar and taught himself how to play with a varied array of influences such as classical, blues, thrash, speedmetal and punk. He spent many years playing with friends and family in garage bands. In the summer of 2018, Gabe joined S8Y and was already on the stage within a month.
The bearded madman himself. Sometime around December 2022, Cory slid into the band like his fingers slide into... across the bass strings. Having been at the centre of Windsor's punk and hardcore scene long before he could wipe his own ass, Cory can also be found playing for other bands such as Wolfcharge and Avoid the Comment Section. Perhaps we can update this bio if he gives me something better to work with.
It was 1989 when this band geek grabbed a guitar and convinced his friend, Paul (Pitch Union, Paradigm Shift), to play drums. Three days later, they performed a butchered rendition of the Sex Pistols' God Save the Queen for their elementary school talent show. This led to many years of playing with friends through the 90s.
Around 1999, Doug joined the already established hardcore band Hardtime as bass guitarist. After a couple years playing shows throughout southern Ontario and their release of the Nothing to Prove album, Hardtime called it quits.
Circa 2005, Hard Sell was formed with Doug returning to the drums. The eclectic punk rockers would eventually disperse around 2012.
Doug would go on to become one of the founding members of Scars Of Our Youth in 2015.
The original punk rocker, Jay was a friend to many. Playing with bands such as Twelve Step Failure and Disco Assault, Jay Ross was a staple in the local music scene. He had a passion for the arts, whether designing and printing shirts or writing poetry. Jay's collection of vinyl was nearly as big as his love for animals, and he could spend hours talking about early punk music. In 2021, Windsor lost a local legend. RIP brother.
Growing up in war-torn Serbia, Igor brought with him a unique background of European punk and metal. His melodic influences can still be heard on songs like Canadian War Story, and his accented vocals gave a fresh take on songs such as Revolution, as heard on the 2017 demo. Igor moved halfway across Canada in 2018, forcing his departure from the band.
One of the founding members of Scars Of Our Youth, Georges' heavy oi! influences set the stage for the streetpunk feel of songs such as Blue Collar Heroes and Beer With the Boys. Due to scheduling issues (We're old - life happens!), Georges was unable to play with S8Y for long. Pictured is Georges playing with Twelve Step Failure in 2001 with Paul of Disco Assault on vocals.
Geoff is a mystery, an enigma. He just appeared out of thin air and never revealed his origin story. He filled in as bass player for a while after Jay's passing. He has since moved on to bigger and better things.
